Peanut Butter Chewies

Ingredients:1c. Peanut Butter
                   1c. Karo Syrup
                   1c. Sugar

                   1 1/4 qt. Cornflakes(5c.)

Preparation:

Bring the sugar to a boil over low to medium heat, stir in peanut butter. Pour mixture over cornflakes. Drop by teaspoon onto waxed paper. Allow to cool.
We always spent this time watching basketball while my dad made this treat. We would smell the peanut butter from up the stairs and come running  to see what it was even though we already knew. I guess just the smell of that treat drew us in. I watch as he gets the sugar then there goes Kobe Bryant with another unbelievable play. My brother just starts laughing out of nowhere and says," He did that."
Perfect treat for the perfect situation. Now as he sets the heat he also pours the peanut butter in a pot and set it on the stove. While it's heating up my brother, cousin and I head out to get the right food for the occasion. Pizza sounded good. We get to Pizza Hut and find out we still have 15 minutes left. Once we get our pizza though, we call and ask what's the progression on the peanut butter chewies."I'm almost done stirring the peanut butter chewies." says my dad.
Music to our ears. Now we drive home and we just get a good feeling all of a sudden. We open the door and the peanut butter is being poured over the cornflakes. Now he drops them by teaspoons onto waxed paper. Now they just need to cool. 10 minutes go by and I get my box and pizza with a sprite and we're in the kitchen eating. We get done a lot faster than it took to get and make the food and treats. Sad moment, but peanut butter chewies are a big part of our family tradition and recipes. We cherished the moment and it was real fun while it lasted. Especially the buzzer beater my favorite player, Derrick Rose, ended the game with. That was really a good family moment to share with you. One day, maybe I'll be able to make some myself for my family.
